It’s hard to stand over an open stainless steel barrel filled with ten liters of 70% alcohol and not have certain thoughts cross your mind. Like — what if we took a shot right now?
“You’d be very drunk, but you wouldn’t die — it’s high-quality, purified alcohol,” said Hrvoje Jelković, co-owner of the Flora Dalmatica distillery, putting our quasi-suicidal thoughts to rest.
We find ourselves in a fragrant twenty-square-meter space at Šibenik’s Old Market. A part of the city right in the center, once home to trees and free parking spaces, and today a monumental pedestrian zone that no one actually walks through. To be fair, there are a few low stone walls along the edges — perfect for sipping a beer. But we’re not here for beer. We’re here for gin.
